Don’t Forget These 5 Things When Moving

There is a lot to remember when it comes to moving. It’s not easy for anyone to gather up everything from their old home and move it to a brand new house. From all of the big stuff to little things like paperwork, it’s easy to see how things can get left behind. To make it easier here is a checklist of 5 things to do before moving.

1.) Banks – This is especially important if you are moving to a new city. If you currently have a local bank, you will need to switch before you leave town. Don’t forget to grab anything important at the bank too, like a safety deposit box.

2.) Medical Needs – One of the first things your new doctor will ask you for are your medical records. Be sure to keep your old doctor’s number so you can have all your paperwork forwarded. Ask your current doctor to call into a pharmacy in your new town to transfer over any prescriptions you may have.

3.) Check the Kitchen – We all end up stocking up on groceries each time we hit the market, so be sure to start using up any frozen goods you don’t want to waste. Check the kitchen about a month before moving and start planning on how you can use everything you purchased. If you can’t use it all, then give it away to friends or donate to your local food bank.

4.) Check your Car – You’ll want to tune up the car before heading to your new home, especially if it’s a long road trip. Also, check your car for a first-aid kit and other things your family may need along the way.

5.) Don’t forget the Mail – Even though we live in a world of e-mails, people still receive mail daily. Be sure to change your address far enough in advance so you start getting the mail at your new home.

Moving can be exciting and overwhelming all at the same time! Create your checklist before you leave and the steps will come naturally.
